Rich architectural heritage, the contrasts of cultures that have filled and enriched the city with their history, and the old streets whose walls have absorbed the aroma of centuries-old coffee traditions — this is the atmosphere that will undoubtedly remain in your memories. We believe that you will recall this journey with even greater pleasure if you plan it well. That is why the team of the Tourist Information Center has prepared recommendations of places and routes that will be useful to travelers during their trip to Lviv.
Lviv is open to the world — open it for yourself!
1. Old Town: Churches and Quarters
Before immersing yourself in the city center, we recommend admiring the panoramic view of the old town from the top of the City Hall Tower (entrance through the main door). From here, you can enjoy a splendid view of Vysokyi Zamok Park, the Dominican Cathedral, the Assumption Church, the Latin Cathedral, the Boim Chapel, and the Austrian-era city architecture.
Lviv is located at the crossroads of trade routes, which gave the city a prominent role in commerce. In the Middle Ages, many people of various nationalities came here. After receiving royal privileges, the city was divided into quarters: Latin, Armenian, Ruthenian, and Jewish. We suggest beginning your walk from the latter.
Through Staroievreiska Street, you will enter the “Space of Synagogues”, whose main idea is “shared heritage and responsibility.” Walking around the building of the former “Dnister” Insurance Company — an example of Hutsul Secession architecture — you will find yourself in the square in front of the Assumption Church and the Korniakt Tower (be sure to step into the courtyard and then enter the church through the Renaissance portal). Passing by the book market around the Fedorov Monument and the Dominican Cathedral, you will reach the medieval Armenian Quarter. Virmenska Street is a source of inspiration for Lviv’s artists. To get acquainted with the city’s contemporary art, we recommend visiting the Dzyga, IconArt, and Green Sofa galleries.

2. Halychyna Cuisine
Among the dozens of well-known establishments in the city center, we recommend visiting restaurants where you can taste local Halychyna cuisine. To promote Halychyna gastronomy, the “Halychyna Cuisine Club” was founded in Lviv. Dishes that possess not only a unique taste but also a story behind them can be enjoyed in such establishments as Trapezna Idei, Gvara, Bachevsky Restaurant, Kumpel, and others.

3. Museums
To better understand the city’s history, visit the Lviv Historical Museum. Perhaps its most fascinating branch is the Korniakt House at 6 Rynok Square. Here, in addition to viewing the royal chambers, during the warmer months, you can enjoy a cup of coffee in the famous Italian Courtyard. And to literally immerse yourself in history, we recommend visiting the underground chambers of the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. In the rooms beneath the church, you will find three panoramas of Lviv from different historical periods, as well as an 18th-century sarcophagus. Why was it left underground? The answer to this question can only be found in the crypt. More information about museums can be found here:

4. Austrian Part of Lviv
Tourists often overlook the “New Town” — the area built during the period when Lviv was under the Austrian crown. You can reach it by crossing Svobody Avenue, which, by the way, was created during this very historical period. More than a century ago, by order of the Austrian administration, the Poltva River was enclosed underground.
Next, walk between the two domed buildings known as the “Banking Gates” and continue along Hnatyuk Street. One of the most interesting locations in this district is the House of Scientists, also known as the Noble Casino. The refined interior of this building will not leave you indifferent. We also recommend strolling through Ivan Franko Park, the oldest park in Lviv, then ascending St. George’s Hill and visiting the magnificent Neo-Baroque St. George’s Cathedral.
It is impossible to experience Austrian Lviv without visiting the Potocki Palace, near which, incidentally, is located the main branch of the Lviv National Art Gallery. To fully feel the “classical” spirit of that era, we suggest visiting the Organ Hall, the Philharmonic Hall, and the Opera Theatre. These venues provide an excellent opportunity to admire their refined and historic interiors — and to conclude your walk through the Austrian part of the city in the most elegant way!

5. Coffee Houses
One of the strongest associations that the city evokes is coffee. The culture of coffee consumption is undoubtedly an important heritage of Lviv and an essential ritual for its residents. Unfortunately, coffee does not grow in our latitudes, but here people have mastered the art of brewing it and have known for centuries how to enjoy it properly.
We recommend experiencing not only the unforgettable aroma but also the exceptional taste of coffee. We suggest the following options: at the legendary Virmenska, enjoy a cup of coffee brewed on hot sand; at Na Bambetli, try coffee with sugar and lemon; at Pid Synioiu Pliashkoiu, savor coffee with spices; and in the underground halls of Lviv Coffee Mining Manufacture, even taste coffee served in capsules.

6. Craft Beer
Another drink closely associated with Lviv is, of course, beer. The uniqueness of craft beer lies in its distinctive recipes and brewing techniques. If words like IPA, ale, pilsner, and stout still raise questions for you, we invite you to immerse yourself in the refined beer culture right in the city center.
Every evening, the “Pravda Beer Theatre” hosts lively orchestral concerts. We recommend enjoying the music with several glasses filled with different varieties of beer. The notes of Carpathian herbs are a characteristic feature of the mountain beer brewed at the “Tsypa” pub. The next location, the “Craft & Kumpel” Beer Atelier, offers adventurous Halychyna cuisine paired with various styles of beer to perfectly match each flavor.
