We invite you to the city that is always “Lutsk-like”. There is no other city like it on the entire planet. And this city is Lutsk. In short, Lutsk is a pleasant discovery! A city both modern and ancient. A city of quiet calm and hidden joy. A city where sincere and hospitable people live. A city that is the birthplace of European diplomacy. A city of loud festivals and creative entertainment. A city of measured relaxation and vivid emotions. A city of culture, art, and unique museums. A city that has its own values and distinct character. A city where it is comfortable to study, work, and simply live…
A city with a soul.
Come to Lutsk and discover it for yourself!
1. In Lutsk, you can see one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine – Lutsk Castle, also known as Lubart’s Castle. Throughout its entire history, it was never captured by an enemy. In addition, it is among the five most beautiful fortification structures in the country.
2. Lutsk is the birthplace of European diplomacy, as in January 1429, the Congress of European Monarchs was held here, aiming to resolve political and economic issues of Central and Eastern Europe. This event was accompanied by grand multi-day celebrations, which are now reenacted every year in the “Princes’ Banquet” festival.
3. Art in Lutsk is a separate topic. Even if you are not particularly interested in its directions and trends, you should visit the corners of the “Lutsk Art Triangle”.

At the Art Museum, you will encounter rare Renaissance-era artifacts, unique in Ukrainian museum collections.
4. The House of Sculptor Mykola Holovan has entered the “TOP-5 Most Extravagant Buildings in Ukraine.” The artist is often called the local Gaudí, and the house is even mentioned in Oxford school textbooks!
5. The largest Catholic church in Ukraine, the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Lutsk, recently celebrated its 400th anniversary.
6. The underground passages beneath the Peter and Paul Cathedral are among the five most mystical in Ukraine. Ancient legends and stories tell of a network of rooms and corridors under the Old Town, connecting Lutsk with neighboring settlements.
7. In Lutsk, town criers also served as city guards and firefighters. They were called “klykuns” because they performed a unique “calling” ritual, shouting “On guard!” to one another from the castle towers. Visiting Lutsk today, you can hear the Lutsk Klykun sounding from the Entrance Tower. You can also take part in an interesting quest tour to find all the klykuns (and there are many).
8. Lutsk inspired Lesya Ukrainka, as she wrote her first poem “Hope” here. Today, you can sit under the ash tree where young Lesya composed her first rhymes. This tree is now one of the oldest ash trees in Ukraine, over 200 years old.
9. The first Ukrainian all-terrain vehicle, the LuAZ 969M, nicknamed “Volynianka,” “Banderivka,” or “Combat Machine of Volyn,” was assembled in Lutsk and made it to the top ten best cars in Europe at the Turin Auto Show in Italy in 1978. Today, it can be used for a city tour.
10. The longest residential building in the world was built in Lutsk. Its total length is 3,265 meters, and along its axis – 1,750 meters. It has 170 entrances and more than 3,000 apartments, housing about 10,000 Lutsk residents. Its unique design also resembles a honeycomb.
11. The Lutsk Festival of Ukrainian Spirit “Bandershtat” is among the “TOP-10 Best Music Festivals in Ukraine”
12. The first and only bell museum in Ukraine is located in Lutsk. Today, its exhibition includes over 90 bells. The oldest dates back to March 1647, contemporary with the era of Bohdan Khmelnytsky. The heaviest bell weighs nearly half a ton, while the smallest is only a few centimeters high and was historically used for a postal carriage.
13. Former Princess of Siam (Thailand) Na Phitsanulok was born in Lutsk. Her birth name was Kateryna Desnytska. She was the daughter of the head of the Lutsk District Court, Ivan Desnytsky, whose grave is located in the Holy Trinity Cathedral cemetery.
14. “And I was there, drinking mead, it ran down my mustache, but none reached my mouth…” Only in Lutsk can you taste this truly magical drink from fairy tales – the princely mead enjoyed by our ancestors, princes and knights, lords and ladies at banquets and feasts.
15. The Lutsk Zoo is the only one in Ukraine reconstructed with European Union grant funding. Today, it is a cozy place for relaxation, loved by both locals and visitors. Some animals live in comfortable enclosures, some in cages, and others roam freely. Moreover, the animals in this zoo constantly reproduce, ensuring the continuity of the collection.
